Moved by the initiative of the Tiko Mayor to provide a Fan Zone for the watching of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON matches in a more relaxed, fun-filled and exciting way in the Tiko Municipality, the General Manager of SONARA, Jean Paul Simo Njonou, decided to join in this initiative that has been keeping fans in Tiko spellbound.
To do this, SONARA, which in the 2016 Female AFCON was in Limbe, then in Buea during the 2020 CHAN games, decided to troop down to Tiko in this 2022 to also give an opportunity for the Tiko population to have a feel of SONARA, know SONARA better and enjoy the ambiance of the AFCON games together with them.
Since the start of the games, SONARA, represented on the site by the Communication Manager, HRH Chief Ebong Pende; the Chief of Service in charge of Communication, Patrick Claude Hagbe, and other staff, have been adding to the joy of the Tiko population visiting the fans with the award of free SONARA T-shirts and other goodies from SONARA.
“I want to say that SONARA is a renowned company in the Region. We felt very happy when they expressed an interest to come and support us in Tiko. Sometimes, we had been made to think that SONARA has sidelined other areas and was only interested in events that take place around Limbe. Their coming to Tiko has made us understand that SONARA is out for all… I think we are encouraged by the presence of SONARA here in Tiko,” Mayor Chief Peter Mesoso told The Post.
The Head of Service in SONARA in charge of Communication, Claude Hagbe, said; “You know, SONARA is not just concerned with the refining of crude oil into different petroleum products and, then, supplying them to the market for people’s use. SONARA is also concerned about supporting initiatives that bring people together for their happiness or wellbeing.”
Hagbe was speaking to the press to explain the reason why their General Manager, in keeping with SONARA’s corporate responsibility policies, decided that they should come down to Tiko and support the Mayor’s Fan Zone initiative.
“So, our General Manager thought it wise to let us come here and show the people of Tiko that we are together and together let’s support the Lions as they take part in this tournament…”
The Tiko Fan Zone and the SONARA within the Fan Zone on Thursday, January 13, when Cameroon took on the Ethiopian, was indeed, electrifying. As the match kicked off, many fans surged on to the SONARA stand to watch the match. Chief Ebong Pende and his collaborators quickly dished out t-shirts freely to the fans. This act was, indeed, motivating as the fans instantly changed into the SONARA t-shirts and fez caps before continuing with the enjoyment of the match and the entire ambiance that went with the day.
“I want to thank the Mayor, his entourage and the entire population of Tiko. I think we have been well received by him and the population here. You see, people have been coming to our stand, they are very happy and there is a good ambiance… We thought it good to come and give out some t-shirts in order to lighten the spirits of the fans as they watch the matches,” Hagbe said.
“The General Manager of SONARA sent his words of congratulations to the Mayor of Tiko for his initiative of putting up this fan zone because it has taken the Mayor, certainly, a lot of patience, money and time to put this up. He also saluted all the population of Tiko and encouraged them to be aware that SONARA is with them” Hagbe said.
